5 Facts About the Emogaze Band Guilty Sleep

On Friday, January 26, Mosh Media attended a show at the Park Theatre featuring the bands Screaming at Traffic, Leons Getting Larger, Guilty Sleep, and Saints & Rogues. After the show, I interviewed the emogaze band Guilty Sleep to as five questions about their band.

The Guilty Sleep members include Eric and Carlos on vocals and guitar, Nick on bass, and Liam on drums. Here are five questions I asked the band.

Q1: What inspired the name of your band?

A1: Guilty sleep, for us, is when you sleep too long because of insomnia or when you're too anxious or depressed, and you sleep excessively you might feel guilty about missing out on important opportunities.

Guilty Sleep performed in front of a large crowd at the Park Theatre on Friday January 26.

Q2: I noticed that you have backing tracks and movie quotes being played during your set after you finished a song. What is the meaning behind that?

A2: That happens because when it comes to speaking on stage, we get really shy. We use the backing tracks to fill in any awkward silence. We choose audio from games and movies we really like. For example, Little Big Planet is a PlayStation game we enjoy, and we want to incorporate some of our interests onto the stage.

Q3: I noticed on stage you have an amp that's painted with eyes, and there's text around it that says, "It All Feels the Same." Who is the artist that did that?

The amp from the show that says. "It All Feels the Same."

A3: A lot of the design work comes from Carlos. He's the graphic designer of our group and also handles a lot of the video work. We use his designs on all the shirts and stickers, and then we make the merch ourselves.

Q4: I noticed you all wear makeup and glitter on stage. Is that a style choice or something fun you do occasionally?

A4: We did that for the first-ever show we played at the Park Theatre, bringing it back full circle. It's another artistic aspect we like to incorporate from time to time. Liam also wears the romper on stage as a way to dress up and express himself.

Q5: Do you have a favorite song you play together?

A5: One of our favorite songs to play is 'Say Something,' where we sit on the edge of the stage and perform. In the past, when Nick had his bass solo in the song, it was awkward for him to play while standing. So we started sitting instead. It came out of necessity, but people seem to love it. We've even had people hug us, and it wasn't unwelcome. It's a newfound way for us to connect with the audience.

You can catch Guilty Sleep at their next show on February 24 at the Handsome Daughter with Leons Getting Larger and Courriers. You can also find them on Instagram and Facebook.
